Rainy Day activities

I'm beginning to think we live in the Amazon jungle instead of Iowa with all of the rain we are getting. So I've been trying to come up with creative activities for the short ones so that no one goes bonkers (including the parental unit) Here is a list of some fun things that we have done or want to do when the weather just doesn't want to cooperate.

Things to do at home:
* Movie party complete with tent, popcorn and PJ's
* Bake something (although since baking at the coffee shop, if I see flour at home I shudder)
* Homemade puppet show
* Indoor picnic in the living room
* Throw the kids in the tub with some homemade fingerprint or pudding
* Let them splash in puddles and play with the umbrellas (this of course without thunder and lighten and go over proper safety procedures for umbrellas....like don't poke your brother's eyeballs out)
* Safari scavenger hunt (hide plastic animals all around the house, go for a safari and look for them)
* Good old fashioned board games like Guess Who, Memory and Checkers
* Build an indoor obstacle course
* Create a treasure map in the house and have a treasure at the end
* Super magic bubbles: You can do this in the tub or outside if it's not lightening.

You'll need:
1/4 cup of liquid dishwashing soap
(Joy works best)
1/2 cup of water
3 tsps. glycerin

If you're feeling adventurous (or clinically insane):
* Visit the local pet store and just look at all of the animals
* Library time
* Come up with a meal, write down ingredients and have the kids help you shop for them and make the meal when you get home
* Art museums or free galleries
* Indoor arena (it helps if you're married to the coach)
* Racquetball courts with lots of beach balls, let them go wild.
* Check out a local hotel with an indoor pool
* Local mall play area (be armed with hand sanitizer and lots of patience)
* Dollar Store (Give each kiddo $3 or $5 to spend and don't let them go over, see how much they can find for that amount of money)
* Call a friend and invite yourself over....no, really.
